How Crunchyroll gets 750,000 people to pay for anime

Digiday :: Video streaming service Crunchyroll, which specializes in Japanese anime (cartoons), has 20 million registered and nearly 750,000 paid subscribers. For $7 or $12 a month, they get exclusive content, discounts on merchandise and chances to meet actors and filmmakers. In the past year, the service has also started to run ads across TV and social media to keep the pipeline of new users going.
